I’ve been meaning to do this for what feels like forever. But it’s such a horrible chore that I’ve just simply ignored it hoping it would all go away. Spoiler alert, it didn’t go away!
It’s a new year and a good excuse to get rid of some old crap just laying around literally collecting dust.
You know me, I buy so much makeup it’s unbelievable it all fits in this little vanity desk. As it turns out I’m a bit of a hoarder…. What’s wrong with me? Why can’t I part with actual crap that literally has no use anymore…?
As you can see from the photos above, some of these are basically empty. I guess I hang on to them ‘just in case’. And other bits in the photo I’ve never even used and they are years old. Wrong colour foundation bought from Urban Decay back in the day when I had a tan, a blusher and highlighter from Bobbi Brown because it was cute but didn’t suit me at all. An eyeshadow pallet with colours I’ve used a couple of times but it was just boring and the wrong kind of sparkly and so I never used it again. A brightening brick thingy from Bobbi Brown that I bought at the airport that’s so sparkly I’m sure I could be one of the Cullen family (from those Twilight books/films) if I wore it in the sun. A blusher from Nars because everyone had one but oh my gosh what the actual fluck was I thinking with that colour on me lol WWWHHHHYYYYYY have I kept all this? I honestly do not know. I do not have an acceptable answer. The only answer is to throw it all out!
These foundations are no better. I must say I did love the Makeup Forever foundation and the Giorgio Armani Foundations but these must be 5-6 years old by now. back then I switched to powder foundation as my lazy ass liked the ease of them better. Now I’ve switched to using stick foundations on the daily because wow, so easy and quick! my lazy and always late ass thanks whomever invented those 🙂 Can I also point out the expiration dates on beauty products are anything from 6 – 24 months. These are well past their expiration dates! Time to get rid!
These makeup bags and brush holders have all been very much loved but are simply falling apart now. I used these a lot as I travel so much back and forth between Sweden and England. They deserve a good home in makeup heaven. In the bin you get!
Half empty packaging of products I no longer use and samples I keep meaning to try but never do. Eyelashes I wore once and thought I should keep but then I realised I never go out out anymore so what’s the point hahahahah In the bin it all goes!
Above is my Before pictures on my 4 drawers. My messy (yet slightly organised) stuffed drawers. I try my best to keep it all neat and tidy. I can’t stand it when it’s totally out of control. But I must face facts. My hoarding days are over! besides, I can’t fit any of my new purchases in anywhere hahahahah I must make room! I must throw all this crap out and stop holding on to things I don’t need just because I spent money on it once. Out with the old and in with the new!
After! My drawers now only contain things I actually use. And I’ve organised them by what I use the most because that made the most sense to me.
Lipsticks and lip balms along with my foundations, powders, blushers, bronzers and highlighters. The things I reach for on a daily basis.
My face creams, foundations I use at the weekend (read can’t be bothered with on work days as they take time hahahahah), primers and some perfume. Some of this I reach for on a daily basis like my face creams and primers.
Things I don’t use on a daily basis I’ve put further down. All my eyeshadow pallets and anything eyeshadow related. I also keep my nail polishes and nail stuff in this one (which I hardly ever use but I have promised my self I will start again soon)
All my makeup bags I use when I travel and hair related bits with some setting sprays. The bottles are just too big to fit in the smaller top draw. This is also where all my makeup brushes live in their brush bag. I used to keep these on my desk in a lovely little jar but my cat used to love rubbing his face up against them all leaving me with white hairy brushes hahahah
On my Makeup Desk
I’ve re-purposed my old used up candle jars and in those I keep my mascaras and some eyeshadow sticks and brow pencils. The things I reach for frequently.
Stop hoarding and face facts; if they are empty, throw them out. If you haven’t used it in over a year, throw it out or give to a friend. Makeup doesn’t last forever so don’t be a sentimental fool like me. Get rid! We don’t want to spread germs on our faces do we by using old makeup. For me an organised space means it is much easier to find what you want right away and I find clutter stresses me out.
How do you organise your makeup? Do you find it hard to get rid of things too? Please do let me know in the comments I would love to hear from you all and to know I’m not alone in my hoarding hahahahah
Until Next Time,
